My father was a sailor when he was young.
Several ships were docked at the port, and everyone had disembarked, leaving only the watchmen behind. But one of the crew members from a certain ship was a bit slow-witted.
The old man in ragged clothes asked that person to feed him.
Of course, there was only enough food for the number of crew members. So that person gave his portion to the old man.
Then the old man gave me a mysterious power, saying, “This is for your generation only.”
And then I started living in a huge mansion.
A story from the Showa era.
There was a rumor that the old man was Kōbō Daishi.

Interesting
But I've been brainwashed by this kind of talk since childhood—
that giving alms to the poor and weak will be seen by the heavens and bring happiness, etc.
Seeing older homeless people in parks, supermarkets, or libraries in this heat makes me feel uneasy.
I bet the people giving alms aren't doing it purely out of kindness either.

Sorry about that.
I'm 385, but the heat got to me and I wrote something weird.
I guess even the person giving the donation has to be selfless, right?
That's what I meant.
Sometimes I think things like, “Should I give half of my half-eaten Papico ice cream to that old lady sitting in the park?”
It makes me feel sick.
I also think, “What a hypocrite.”

Even if the donor is sincere, it doesn't necessarily mean good things will come of it.
My grandpa's story.
When he was young, he ran a business and lived in a big house.
One day, a man who looked like a vagrant came by and asked if there was anything to eat.
Feeling sorry for the man's ragged appearance, Grandpa gave him some rice to eat.
But then the old man said, “I'm sorry to say this, but bad things happen in this house.”
Grandpa got angry and kicked the vagrant out.
About a week later, the house caught fire and burned to the ground.
